story of footnote to youth by jose garcia villa.Whole story of footnote to youth by jose garcia villa.?
It tells the story of an older man, a husband and father, who made a mistake in the past and ended up with a life of hardship. He had married very young and he and his wife had a child every year for six years. His eldest son is just like him when he was young. His son is hasty in making the decision to get married, just like he was when he was 17. Yet despite this, Dodong doesn't stop Blas from marrying Tona, but he is sad for his son because he knows what his life will be like.

The characters are Dodong who got married at the age of 17; Teang, his wife, who regrets marrying at an early age; Lucio (Teang's other suitor who got married after she did and who's childless); Blas, (Dodong and Teang's oldest son) who follows in their footsteps to marry Tona.

When are footnotes necessary in a document?

When do you add footnotes in an essay or a response? Are they for extra information that doesn't quite fit into the question or thesis? When are footnotes necessary in a document?
Most footnotes are used for citations or definitions. However, it depends on the format your paper must be written if. Most higher education requires APA format that requires intext citations.

Oh yea, try this website...I've used it before for work...

Can you give me the whole story of footnote to youth?

Actually, I can麓t argue about this subject because I never ever talked it before.

What does a ';footnote'; mean? Can you give an example?

A footnote is a citation that appears at the end of a page. An end note appears at the very end of the work. You can do footnotes and end notes in MS Word.

Anyway, when you read a book, check out those little numbers after words or sentences that look like exponents. The number corresponds to a particular footnote where you can find the citation for the piece of information discussed.

By the way, there's a specific format (depending on what subject you're studying) for writing a footnote. For example:

6 Smith, John. _The American Civil War_. Simon %26amp; Schuster, 1998, pgs. 13-15.

You have to know what your teacher wants--MLA, Chicago Style, etc.--and you can look up the format online.

P.S. To find footnotes on MS Word, go to Insert%26gt;Reference%26gt;Footnote. You use the footnote feature after you've written the sentence or paragraph you want to cite. You can also go back and cite after you've written your paper, but I find it's easier to keep track as you go along. You should place your footnote after a sentence, not mid-sentence.What does a ';footnote'; mean? Can you give an example?
footnote is found at the bottom of a page and shows who you got a quote from. You use footnoting when writing a research paper because you have to show your sources. What does a ';footnote'; mean? Can you give an example?
a footnote is at the bottom of your page to show where you find your quote that you are using......if you go to tools in word then click on footnote it will automatically place it at the bottom of the page for you....then you would put where you got the quote from...the book the author and the page.....be sure to number them from your first one to the next...if you are on page 6 and you are using number three quote, the footnote will be number 3.....be sure you do this correctly because you can lose marks if it is not used properly
A 'Footnote' is information associated with the topic in the form of reference, supporting evidence or example but is not necessary to the understanding of the topic as presented.

It's a foot note because it's at the bottom of the page. It is referenced in the text by an, *. If there are many they require an individual number or letter in sequential order.*

It can be used as a verbal clue that the topic was related but had no effect on the main issue. i.e. The failure to open the concession stands was just a footnote to an otherwise memorable event.

Click Insert %26gt; Reference %26gt; Footnote or Endnote

By default, Word places footnotes at the end of each page and endnotes at the end of the document. You can change the placement of footnotes and endnotes by making a selection in the Footnotes or Endnotes box.

In the Number format box, click the format you want.

As you insert additional footnotes or endnotes in the document, Word automatically applies the correct number format. You can also use shortcut keys to insert footnotes or endnotes.

Press CTRL+ALT+F to insert a footnote.

Put the cursor when you want the footnote or end-note to mark.

Click Insert, Reference, Footnote - choose which numbering you require and click OK and then the bottom of the page makes room for your comments. Enter these and close.

Return to your text where you placed the cursor and you should find a number there which you designated. Gently place the cursor over the number and the footnote or end-note shows your comments. Also your comments will be at the bottom of the page.

Word will automatically maintain the numbering sequence no matter what you do to the endnotes. To put in a Word endnote (Word XP (2002) and adjacent versions. Word Vista (2007) probably has a similar mechanism):

1.Position the cursor where you want the endnote reference to go.

2.Click on the Insert-%26gt;Reference-%26gt;Footnote menu item.

    3. If it's not already selected, select the Endnote radio button.

    4.Click Insert.

    5.Type the endnote.

Hope that helps. How do u insert a FOOTNOTE in microsoft WORD w/o the thing that shows up on the bottom? 10 PTS cuz i pick b.a.
first go the top bar that says things like file and edit then you go to insert and you should see a thing that says foot note click it and it will insert it
The thing that shows up at the bottom is your footnote.

By the way, what is ten points worth? I have some for sale.
if you are talking about the grey box, its not there when you print. anything that grey is not there when you print.
I think what you are actually trying to do is add endnotes not footnotes. Endnotes are at the end of your document, not at the bottom of the page. Click to insert the cursor where you want to add the endnote. Then click on Insert (in the toolbar at the top), then reference, and finally footnote. A window will appear. Select ';endnotes'; and the formatting that you want and click instert. You'll then be able to enter your notes... If you want the endnotes to be on a seperate page (at the end of the document), then insert a page break right before the endnotes. Then as you add more text, etc. to your document, the endnotes will always be at the very end, and on a seperate page. Also, as you add more notes, or move things around in the document, the endnotes will automatically update the numbering accordingly, so you don't have to do it manually. You can also click right before your endnotes (on your last page, and enter (insert a couple lines) so that you can put a title on the page like ';NOTES'; or something similar...

  • When writing a research paper and taking info from websites how would you cite a bullet? Are footnotes ok?

I am writing a paper and using many different outside sources a friend suggested adding footnotes instead of putting the actual citations and then at the end of the paper writing up the bibliography as usual with the footnote numbers next to it. Would that be an acceptable way to write up my paper? Or should I just stick in the citations everywhere they go?

My biggest thing is that I am using bullets from a website and I am not sure how to cite those at all. Can someone please help me?When writing a research paper and taking info from websites how would you cite a bullet? Are footnotes ok?
Footnotes are an excellent idea but you may want to check with your instructor on what the proper form is. I've written plenty of research papers with footnotes. Some instructors want the footnotes at the bottom of the typed written page that it was on and these footnotes are always numbered--don't use bullets. List your footnotes in numerical order and remember after the sentence that you've footnoted, you must put the proper number so it can be located in your footnote section.

Another form of footnoting is to have a separate page at the end of your paper right before your bibliography or reference sheet. In other words, it can be a seperate sheet by itself.

Footnotes are an excellent idea and the papers that usually get the best grades are the ones with excellent footnotes. Remember, the main reason you footnote something is because it's a direct quote of a sentence or sentences from something you used as a reference to write your paper. This makes sure that you're not copying anyone's work and footnotes also help you make your point when writing your paper. When writing a research paper and taking info from websites how would you cite a bullet? Are footnotes ok?
If your citations are long they should go at the end. This also depends on which format you use.

What is the purpose of footnotes and how do I use them in the MLA format? Is it necessary to include footnotes in addition to a works cited list in my paper if only 2 sources are used?
    Footnotes indicate the source of ideas and facts which are not original to you, and are not considered ';common knowledge.'; You don't have to give a source for ';Columbus made his first voyage in 1492'; but you need to cite where you got the info that ';the men of Columbus's company were eager to rape and steal from the people they encountered.';

Even if there are only two sources, you must indicate the origin of each concept or fact you take from either source.

How do I avoid huge gaps between document text and footnotes for MS Word 2007?

I am using MS 2007 word, and im typing a report using footnotes to note my sources. What I am finding are these gaps between the text of my report and where the footnotes begin. Does anyone have a solution to remove the gaps, or an explanation of why this situation is occurring? How do I avoid huge gaps between document text and footnotes for MS Word 2007?
I suspect you have Widows and Orphans Control selected and it's causing this. A widow is the last line of a paragraph alone at the top of a page. An orphan is the reverse: a single line on the first page followed by the rest of the paragraph on the next.

The steps in Word 2002 (XP) are these:

    1. Select your entire document with CTRL/A.

    2. Click on the Format-%26gt;Paragraph menu item.

    3. Select the Line and Page breaks tab.

    4. In the pagination section, deselect ';Widow/Orphan control.';

    5. Keep Lines Together probably won't be set, but if it is, deselect it also.

    6. Click OK.

If you want to prevent this from happening on your next document, here are the steps, again in Word 2002/XP.

    1. Click in any of the previously offending paragraphs.

    2. Click on the Format-%26gt;Styles and Formatting menu item.

    3. In the Styles and Formatting sidebar that pops up, find the style that's in a box (it will probably be Normal). Put the cursor in it, click the list box arrow that appears, then click Modify.

    4. On the Modify Style dialog box, click the Format button, then click the Paragraph list box entry.

    5. As you did above, clear the Widow/Orphan Control and Keep Lines Together check boxes.

    6. Click OK to close this dialog box.

    7. Click the Tools-%26gt;Organizer menu item. A dialog box with two list boxes will appear. The left-hand list box will show the styles in your document' the right-hand will show the styles in the template your document is based on (probably Normal.dot).

    8. In the left-hand list box, find the style you just changed and select it.

    9. The Copy%26gt;%26gt; button will enable. Click it to copy the style to the template.

    10. Click Close.

    11. When you close your document, you may see a warning message asking if you want to save the changes to the Global template. This is an anti-virus measure, intended to alert you that something has changed in Normal.dot. In this case, you made the change, so you want to accept it.

Any new documents created with the template will now use this style.

Hope that helps. How do I avoid huge gaps between document text and footnotes for MS Word 2007?

    Click %26lt;OK%26gt;

To resume your paper, reposition your cursor in the main portion of your paper and continue typing.
    Go to ';Insert'; on the menu bar, and select ';Footnotes.';

Since I don't know what style of citation you're using, I can't really say for sure where you're supposed to put the footnote, but usually it's right after the word/phrase you're citing. I've never seen a footnote that precedes the citation.
Go to top menu, Format, Font. Superscript will put numbers at top right of text, like for a number that is squared, subscript will put them at the lower right. Check the subscipt box if you want numbers at bottom right, superscript for upper right. They will be smaller. Then you can use View, Header and Footer, choose footer, to put the notes for the footnotes at the bottom. I used a manual typewriter to do this stuff in 1972. under what circumstances are endnotes/footnotes being used ? What's the difference between a bibliography and footnotes/endnotes? Is it nesscery to use both bibliography and endote/footnote? Why?What exactly is Endnote/Footnote?
';Footnotes and endnotes are used to comment on or cite a reference to a designated part of the text of a paper. Every footnote or endnote includes a reference in the document text as wells the footnote or the endnote itself. This reference is usually a number, but it can also be a letter or any other symbol. The only difference between footnotes and endnotes is that the former appear on the same page as the referenced material while the latter appear at the end of a section of the document or the end of the document itself.'; (1)

How do you footnote a paragraph..???

can any one tell me how to footnote a paragraph...pleaseeeHow do you footnote a paragraph..???
Keeping the start of a footnote on the same page as its reference

If you've ever tried to type (on a typewriter!) a page with footnotes, you know how hard it is to figure out how much space to leave for them. If you have a footnote reference in the very last line of a page, there will not be room for an extra footnote, and both reference and note will have to be carried to the next page. Or there may be room for the text reference and part of the note, but the remainder of the note will have to be continued on the next page. Sometimes it's hard to estimate how long the note will be, too. Word has to make all these same calculations. Admittedly it makes them a lot faster, but it's still a complex operation, and it's not surprising that sometimes it doesn't turn out quite right.

Some users have reported footnotes wandering uncontrollably. This was an admitted bug in Word 97 and below (and is most likely to be evident if you have “Keep lines together” switched on for your Footnote Text style, or if you have no Space Before or After in your Footnote Text style); and it results from the difficulty of calculating where page breaks will fall, especially in a document with complex formatting. How do you footnote a paragraph..???
    1. Switch to normal view (normal view: A view that shows text formatting and a simplified page layout. Normal view is convenient for most editing and formatting tasks.).

    2. On the View menu, click Footnotes.

If your document contains both footnotes and endnotes, a message appears. Click View footnote area or View endnote area, and then click OK.

    3. In the note pane (pane: A portion of the document window bounded by and separated from other portions by vertical or horizontal bars.), click Footnote Continuation Notice or Endnote Continuation Notice.

    4. In the note pane, type the text you want to use for the continuation notice — for example, type Endnotes continued on the next page.

    When to footnote?

I am writing a paper which is mostly a historical look at unions in the united states. I have found one really good book and am basically following the same outline that the author uses. Although the majority of my paper is paraphrased from the one book, I do not want to have to footnote every sentence but i am scared of getting in trouble for plagiarism. Since most of the info contains numbers or facts, it is not common knowledge but when do i footnote and when do i not? When to footnote?
It sounds to me like you are, unfortunately, stuck. When you take a particular, uncommon fact from a particular location, you have to cite the source. If you draw a conclusion of your own, using the book as background material, then you can cite the book as a general reference.

One way that some authors circumvent frequent footnoting is with a disclaimer that all data comes from source %26lt;blah%26gt;. Using this depends on whether it's within the citation style demanded by your instructor. When to footnote?
You should footnote all factual material, but you don't have to repeat the entire footnote every time. If it's from the same book, just number the footnotes in order and say, for example: Ibid, p. 23. Ibid is Latin for ';in the same place'; and it's an acceptable way to footnote material once you've given all the necessary information. Even though you paraphrase, you must cite your source or, as you understand, you can be accused of plagiarism.

  • How do you make footnotes at the end of each paragraph?

My friend from college never had to do her footnates at the end of each paragraph and her paper is dued tomorrow. Please help no smart remarks. How do you make footnotes at the end of each paragraph?
You DON'T do footnotes at the end of each paragraph. That's simply not done. Most word processors don't give you a way to do that for the simple reason that there's no reason you should ever need to. Footnotes can go at the end of the document, page, or section, but not the end of each paragraph.

Formatting footnotes varies by word processor, so without knowing which you're using, I can't tell you how to do it. In Microsoft Word, you can format footnotes by selecting ';footnote'; under the ';insert'; menu. The location (end of page or end of document) and number style can be changed on the window that pops up, and there's an ';options'; button that will open a window with additional formatting options.

For Help on an option, click the question mark , and then click the option.

    Click Insert.

Word inserts the note number and places the insertion point next to the note number.

    Type the note text.

Scroll to your place in the document and continue typing.

As you insert additional footnotes or endnotes in the document, Word automatically applies the correct number format.

This applies if yo're using Microsoft Word. I just went to the ';show assistant'; link.

    Correct way to use footnote?

    Serious answers only PLEASE

What is the correct way to use footnotes. The source I purchased failed to mention correct or useful information. For a book should I include a page? For a personal communication, how is this done? If you cite a work once in a footnote, do you use the format for each additional footnote with the same source, or an abbreviated form?

Any details you can provide would be appreciatedCorrect way to use footnote?
It can depend on the form of citation style you are using (i.e. MLA, APA). Generally, a footnote is as follows to reference an idea or statement: 1 Smith, 145-147. Some styles of citation require that in your first footnote of the particular author as follows: Smith, John. The Name of This Book. New York: 1999. Pages 1-14. Then the whole: ';Smith, 15.'; Following that. Textual footnotes are also an option. Again, it depends on the type of citation style you are using.Correct way to use footnote?
A footnote is marked with an * or asterick. When you cite a phrase or paragraph from another author, you add the * after the phrase and at the bottom of the page put an * then the source of the phrase or paragraph. For a book, you should footnote the book's Title, Author and you may include the page, in fact you should. For a personal communication, and asterick may also be used just as for a book. If all of your footnotes are from the same source, you can footnote it as follows: *Title, Author, Page 123 and all other footnotes in this book will be from the book, Title and Author. Additional footnotes will be by page numbers only. Then all you have to do is footnote the page numbers. The abbreviation for page is pg. Your footnote would look like this: *pg. 123. I hope this helps you. God bless you.

Is it possible to have endnotes and footnotes in the same paper for MLA style research format?

I have never used footnotes or endnotes in my research papers, so this is a fairly remedial question, but here goes. Within one research paper, is it acceptable, conventional to use BOTH footnotes and endnotes, or is it an 'either or' situation?

Also, if anyone knows, when using footnotes and/or endnotes, is it appropriate to also have a Works Cited page at the end?

What are footnotes and endnotes and how do you do them?

I am writing a paper for the first time with them in it and I was wondering what they should contain and where they go. Thanks so much for your help. What are footnotes and endnotes and how do you do them?
Footnotes are notes that appear at the bottom (or “foot”) of the page. The writer refers the reader to footnotes by placing numbers at the ends of sentences, like this.1 or this.2 The number refers the reader to the bottom of the page, or to a separate page at the end of your paper, where the writer (you) explains the sentence above, or gives more information, or tells the reader where you got the information in the sentence. End notes work the same way, but they are put at the end of a sentence in parentheses (like this). The end notes refer the reader to a separate sheet at the end of your paper. For example, if your paper used information from a book by someone named Jones, you would record the information about that book on the end notes page of your paper, and every time you used something from the Jones book in your paper you would place an end note at the end of that sentence, like this (Jones, p. 34.)

These things can get pretty specific, and if you do it wrong you'll at the lease lose points on your paper and at the worst you can be accused of plagiarizing.

You need to find out the format your teacher expects. He or she should have done one of the following things: handed out a ';style guide'; that describes the exact way to do it, or referred you to the particular reference book that describes the process. Ask your teacher next time you meet what format he/she expects and where to get the information to do this the right way. Good luck. What are footnotes and endnotes and how do you do them?
    About footnotes and endnotes

Footnotes and endnotes are used in printed documents to explain, comment on, or provide references for text in a document. You might use footnotes for detailed comments and endnotes for citation of sources.

A footnote or an endnote consists of two linked parts — the note reference mark (note reference mark: A number, character, or combination of characters that indicates that additional information is contained in a footnote or endnote.) and the corresponding note text.

You can add note text of any length and format note text just as you would any other text. You can customize note separators, the lines that separate the document text from the note text.

*Go to the tab Insert on a Word Doc then go under Reference click on footnote and you will see ur options.

What's the difference between footnotes and bibliography?

In essay writing I need foot notes and bibliography. What's the difference and are they both included in the word count? What's the difference between footnotes and bibliography?
They are both a part of referencing. Footnotes are what you need when you cite a quote or some information that you've got from somewhere else. You have to cite the source or it is plagiarising (copying someone else's work and passing it off as yours.)

A footnote can be done by clicking after the quote etc that you want to cite and if you're using Microsoft Word go to Insert and then footnote then a line will come at the bottom of the page where you say where you say the source. A bibliogrpahy is a summary of all your references in an alphabetical list (surnames first). Some people use the Harvard system while others use the Short Title System. I use the Short Title System where if you cite something within the essay and use a footnote you put the order like this:

If it's a book: A. Crisell, An Introductory History of British Broadcasting, 2nd ed, London/New York, Routledge, 2001, p.141

Internet source:Unknown author, History: The Glory Years, Radio Caroline.co.uk, date unknown, http://www.radiocaroline.co.uk/history3.鈥?/a> date accessed: 20/04/08

For the bibliography use the same structure in the same order except for with books take away the page number and have the author's name surname first then initials following.

This is only for the Short Title System though!! Hope I helped! What's the difference between footnotes and bibliography?
footnotes are things you write in brackets- small things

it is usually use so the teacher could see where you copied from a source

eg. you won't need to write the whole bibliography just the web or title or etc

bibliography should be written on another page

    and

    The Encyclopedia Britannica

    as foot note
Foot notes are sentence in the bottom or side margins that explain things further you could put a * next to a word and then put a footnote in the side margin explaining

a Bibliography is a list of your sources at the end of your paper

you do not include them in your word count
Footnotes go at the end of every page, and a bibliography or works cited page goes at the very end, all compiled. Neither should be counted in word count.

I read about this masterpiece by author Nick Joaquin. The moral of the story is that marriage is something that is taken seriously. Because marriage aside from being a sacrament is something that is full of responsibilities; when you decide to get married and you do marry someone, there is no turning back. To the youth, there is lots of things that should be taken into consideration before marrying of course including their readiness to take the responsibilities of raising a family and being able to respond to their needs. Because marriage is not a move that they can cancel when they feel like doing so.

You might have used the return key all of the way down on the pages that it didn't work on. Try this: backspace all of your keyed returns then, from where you left off, do the footer thing then the footnote thing. It's just something you need to work on (if I am wrong) until it is doing what you want.

    Hello,

A footnote can be many different things. Determine what style your teacher wants. It should be on the assignment, given in lecture, on your syllabus, or perhaps written on the board. Chances are, it is MLA style if you are in public high school in the United States. The Modern Language Association is one commonly cited authority for academic writing style. The American Psychological Association (APA) or Chicago Manual (often called Turabian after the University of Chicago Secretary that so diligently edited Ph.D. candiates' drafts for umpteen million years) are two other sources. Your teacher may have also devised and explained in class what they want to see. Check out the sources below for examples of each style of footnote.

    Tim

tjhaas2008@gmail.comWhat is a footnote? I really need to know.?
Sometimes when you are reading something, there are little numbers above a work or set of information that needs further explanation. Underneath or on another page it will be in numerical order with the definition, synonym, or further explanation of it

For example, in older writing the author may have used a word that isn't used anymore, so the author will put a number next to it and then define it in a way a common reader can understand. Sometimes authors add them to their work as well to clarify without having to put it in their original work.
In general it is a note that is written at the bottom of the page; but it usually used to cite something that you are quoting, you put a citation in the same for you would put it in the bibliography.
A footnote is when you're writing a paper and you reference something, but instead of putting a Bibliography page at the end, you put a Note at the bottom of the page.
footnote is like where you cited it from all the information

Help analysing a footnote by Wordsworth?

This footnote was found at the end of a volume by wordsworth need to know what it means. It's not famous at all or that poetic. What do you think it means?

What鈥檚 it going to take to resolute my forgiveness

There鈥檚 nothing beyond my resentment that will grant me fulfilmentHelp analysing a footnote by Wordsworth?
It means he can't find anything that makes him feel alive besides his anger and thirst for vengeance and such. He's tried forgiving and it makes him feel like less of a man. So much of great literature is consumed in the unending quest for self determination and self actualization. Who am I? what does it mean to be human? etc.Help analysing a footnote by Wordsworth?
its about his desire to write without stopping and stating that nothing else would make him comfortable then writing.

we know that romantic poets has great faith in reform by writing, and most of them at the end felt frustrated, but here he is determined to continuing what he started.
    He's describing holding a grudge. He's holding a grudge, and he's introspective about it. Like, ';How long am I going to be angry about this?';

If I dont use a source word for word, do I have to footnote, or just cite as a source in bibliography?

Just cite it in your bibliography. If I dont use a source word for word, do I have to footnote, or just cite as a source in bibliography?
You should still give credit to the source of the thought or idea in a footnote. If the thought or idea (for example, you drawing a conclusion based on input from multiple sources) is yours exclusively or an independent comment on those sources, then you can cite the source in the bibliography.

As an example, if you quoted someone in your writing, that is definitely a footnote. If the source said something like ';dachshunds were originally bred in France; however, the breed later became a favorite of German breeders and thus is identified as a German breed today,'; that would require a footnote.

If you wrote, ';many people do not know that the dachshund breed originated in France'; as a paraphrase of this quote, you should still footnote the source.

If you wrote ';some evidence suggests the dachshund breed was developed in France but there is wide disagreement with this point of view by some in the field'; that would not require a footnote.

  • I have extra space at the end of each page i have a footnote on in Microsoft Word 2003! please help- URGENT!!!

i added footnotes to my document and on certain pages (its really random) theres like an extra line in between my text and the footnote... every time i try to delete it word acts as if its not there! please help!

how do i get rid of this space?

thanks!I have extra space at the end of each page i have a footnote on in Microsoft Word 2003! please help- URGENT!!!
You state two different conditions in your description.

If your problem happens only on ';certain'; pages, you might have Widows and Orphans turned on. This prevents a single line at the beginning of a paragraph (a ';widow';) or at the end (an ';orphan'; -- I may have reversed the terms) from being on a page by itself.

To turn this off, do this:

    1. Select the entire document.

    2. Right-click in the document and select Paragraph.

    3. Click the Line and Page Breaks tab.

    4. In the Pagination section, deselect Widow/Orphan Control.

    5. Click OK.

On the other hand, if it happens on ';each page [you] have a footnote';, you may have some Before spacing attached to the footnote style.. Do this:

    1. Click in the paragraph.

    2. Click on the Format-%26gt;Styles and Formatting menu item.

    3. In the bottom part of the sidebar that pops up, the style for your paragraph should have a bold box around it.

    4. Hover the cursor over the style. A listbox arrow should appear. Click it.

    5. Select Modify from the list box.

    6. Click the Format button and select Paragraph.

    7. Click the Indents and Spacing tab.

    8. Int he Spacing section, make sure there's a zero in the Before list box.

    9. OK out of everything.

All paragraphs in the document with that style should adjust themselves.

Now, if you want to carry this one step further and fix the style on the template your document is based on (probably Normal.dot, but not necessarily), do this:

    1. Click the Tools-%26gt;Organizer menu item.

    2. In the left-hand list box, find and click on the style you changed.

    3. Click the Copy button between the two list boxes.

    4. Click OK.

When you close your document, you may see a warning message asking if you want to save the changes to Normal.dot. This is an anti-virus measure, intended to alert you that something has changed in Normal.dot. In this case, you made the change, so you want to accept it.

Hope that helps.I have extra space at the end of each page i have a footnote on in Microsoft Word 2003! please help- URGENT!!!

Use a quoted statement and then use the footnote to identify the author or speaker; include when and where it was said, perhaps even who the audience was. You probably have footnote examples in your texts.

    When do you use endnote/footnote?

I need to use endnote or footnote and I was wondering when you use it.

Do you only use it when you are writing something directly from the source?

Do you use it everytime you state a fact?

(Like, Barney is a purple dinosaur 1.)?

If you do, then won;t that mean you have to cite just about every sentence??

Please help and I would like it if you procided a link, but it's not necessary. When do you use endnote/footnote?
An endnote or footnote is used when you are quoting something directly from a source and you need to site it in your essay. You can also use footnotes and endnotes to add to a sentence when the information you want to add is not very relevant. For example, if you mention a person by name, you may want to use a footnote or endnote to add something that you think should be noted but does not necessarily need to be added to the essay.

    Easy. :)

Go to insert (or maybe view) and click Header/Footer.

    Footer = Footnotes.

When you click Header/Footer it'll open up a little box at the bottom of each page. In that box you can type in footnotes.

Now what are footnotes? Basically, let's say you write the following:

    ';Galileo Galilei was perhaps the most brilliant man of the 17th century and wrote 12 articles for the New York Times.';

If you got this piece of information (the 12 articles part) from an encyclopedia, on the bottom of the page, in the foot note you would write:

';Encyclopedia Britanica: Galileo Galilei'; (or whatever)

What is that part of Jose Garcia villa's life that is similar to that of the ';footnote to youth';?

    because they match that

What do you footnote and don't footnote?

I am confused because everything on my research paper seems like it is supposed to be footnoted. which doesn't seem right. What do you footnote and don't footnote?
Make footnotes for quotes, statistics, and facts that most people don't know (e.g. they sounds like they might be debatable)What do you footnote and don't footnote?
I agree!!!!! I argued (and dropped) a senior history class because the ancient relic that was paid to teach the course was too fossilized to 1) accept word processing because the dot-matrix hurt his eyes (more likely his brown-nosing little student helpers eyes), and 2) would not accept the MLE style of writing a research paper and required footnotes.

So, I typed the paper on a selectric, wrote it in the MLE style, and added footnotes at the bottom that basically was another philosophy paper on ';how footnotes are useless because whatever information offered was better suited in the text, else, it wasn't worth reading in the first place'; and ';how placing footnotes interrupts the flow, concentration and importance of what I, as the author, was attempting to make easy enough to understand without reading two books in one.

I was also watching ';Monty Python's The Holy Grail'; at the time, and put a few Llama quotes from the opening credits in the footnotes (I, of course, included the copywrite in the sources)

He called me to the front of the class and attempted to humiliate me. I dished out as much as I got. (Chef Ramsey and I wouldn't have gotten along either).

I am all for respecting authority, but often there are those who forget to earn it.

So, I really do not respect footnotes...if it is important enough to be in a research paper...it is good enough to be in the body.

I am as lost as you!!!!!

I am not sure what software you are using to do your project. But if you have Microsoft Office 2007 with Word installed, it should offer you ';Citations and Bibliography'; options under the ';References'; ribbon or tab.

You could also use other complicated software that are available. As such there are hundreds of formats for putting together a bibliography, eg. APA the 5th, MLS, etc. etc.

HELP! how would I site this source as a footnote or endnote?

Mohamed Kably wrote the essay “Legitimacy of State Power and Socioreligious Variations in Medieval Morocco,” which appeared on pages 17-29 of the book In the Shadow of the Sultan, edited by Rahma Bourqia and Susan Gilson Miller. Harvard University Press (Cambridge, Massachusetts) published In the Shadow of the Sultan in 1999. The subtitle of the book is “Culture, Power, and Politics in Morocco.” How should I cite the entirety of Kably’s essay from this book?HELP! how would I site this source as a footnote or endnote?
    for notes:

Mohamed Kably, ';Legitimacy of State Power and Socioreligious Variations in Medieval Morocco,'; in (italics) Shadow of the Sultan (/italics), ed. Rahma Bourqia and Susan Gilson Miller, 17-29 (Cambridge, MA: Harvard University Press, 1999).

The page numbers in your notes should only cover the pages that you are using for that particular citation. For example, if you use only pages 20-21 in the part of your paper that you are citing, you should only document those pages in the note. Your bibliography should include all the pages from the work.

You may not need to use the subtitle in the notes but be sure to include it in your bibliography. you would use a colon before the subtitle. If you want to include the subtitle in the notes to be sure, you can, just put a colon at the end of the book and write in the subtitle. Make sure the entire title is italicized in the notes!

You need more formal citations for your bibliography.

when you're in your later years of high school (years 11 and 12) they expect you to be clear with your references. Depends on the subject, but it's always important to reference your sources. Ive just started university and they dislike footnotes, they expect you to use a referencing system called APA which is a tad more difficult. If you are in high school I'd ask your teacher. When exactly is it best to use a footnote for an essay?
It is often used as a place for you to give credit to a source where you are quoting from or using information from. Also, it is the perfect place to add extra, interesting information about what you are writing - without taking away the importance of what you were originally writing.
usually a foot note has a little number next to it, like you would see in math when a number is squared or something. that number will have an explanation at the bottom of the page and could be explaining a quote, or where you got your information.. something along those lines. :)
You should also use a footnote when you are referring to another author's you are plagiarising the best thing to do is to insert a footnote

The Footnote citations must be added at the foot or bottom of the SAME page where you have cited the sources. All first Footnote references must be cited in full. Subsequent references of the same work may be shortened to include only the author's last name and page number. If the source cited has no author stated, use whatever minimal information is needed to identify the same work previously cited, e.g. short title and page number. Formerly, the Latin terms ibid. and op. cit. were used but they are no longer preferred.

You should never cite wikipedia when writing a research paper. Wikipedia is not a reliable source, anybody can update it at any time. How to footnote wikipedia?
If you're doing a research assignment, you might want to check with your teacher...most do not allow ';wiki'; sites because of their unpredictability and lack of reliability (because they are just written by whoever wants to add or remove info).

  • How can I move the footnote separator to the LEFT in MS Word 2000?

It is to the left, isn't it? I'm not sure what you mean. Are you asking how to reset the footnotes' left margin?

If you want to move the separator on the page, just highlight the separator, go up to your Word toolbar, and click one of the symbols that indicate left-justified, centered, right-justified, and that other thing.

Should the footnote go before or after the period in a sentence?

    ex: should it be like

If you are footnoting the entire sentence, as you seem to be doing here, footnote after the period. If you are footnoting a particular word, such as ';that';, footnote after that word and before the period.Should the footnote go before or after the period in a sentence?
Chicago Manual of Style recommends period then footnote mark:

Question regarding footnote style in a thesis?

I am writing a doctoral thesis and have to cite a footnote in a footnote -- that is, I am quoting from a footnote in another book. I need to know how to do this properly in the Chicago Manual of Style/Turabian style. If you know how to do this properly and can tell me where you got the info, I'll give you 10 points!

Please don't send me to the Chicago Manual website as I have searched it top to bottom, have also searched my copy of Turabian.Question regarding footnote style in a thesis?
I can't guarantee that this is correct, but put the footnote as you normally would, but when you cite the page number, follow it with n. in italics - and, if there are more than one note on that page, the note number: n.2 (for example).

As I say, can't guarantee this is 100% correct, but it's what I'd do (and I did do an MA thesis).Question regarding footnote style in a thesis?
I have been wondering the exact same thing and Katrine is right, Turabian says absolutely nothing about it. Thanks for the suggestion. Report Abuse
