Does anybody know a good website that would have good footnotes for The Witch of Blackbird pond?

I'm having a big test Friday in two classes on the Witch of Blackbird Pond, a book by Elizabeth George Spear, and I've only read up to chapter 12 out of 18 or some chapters and I'm screwed. I need some footnotes to study too! Sparknotes.com dosen't have them so I don't know what I'm supposed to do. Any ideas?Does anybody know a good website that would have good footnotes for The Witch of Blackbird pond?
You are supposed to read the book!

It's very good ... just get off the computer, turn off the TV and read!

Do you have to put footnotes every time?

When using footnotes in your research paper, are you supposed to put footnotes after everything that you type from what you found from a source? Even if it is in your own words?

If so, that is alot of footnotes! thanks =]Do you have to put footnotes every time?
As an undergrad physics student....

We're told to follow the guidelines from Phys. D, a physics journal.

Anything that you have used from another source must be REFERENCED. In your text, insert a footnote number in square brackets. The references should then be listed in numerical order, again in square brackets. They should then be written in the format....

Author, title of work that has been referenced, where it can be found, if it's a journal, then date of publication, and finally the page numbers if relevant.

Hope this helps.

How to properly use footnotes?

This is my article:

In order to strengthen the message he introduced the censorship system: “You could only read, see, and hear, what the Nazis wanted you to read, see and hear.” (Trueman)

I am supposed to use a footnote in citation, so where would the quote go, in the foot note? How about the author? Can someone show me how it should look properly formatted? Thanks in advance. How to properly use footnotes?
If it's a history class you want to follow the chicago style, essentially just insert a footnote next to the quote (it will show up at the bottom of the page) then the authors name in the footnote and all the normal info in yer bibliography.

*edit* Specifically if you're using Microsoft Word after the quote you are citing select 'Insert' from the top, then select 'Reference' and lastly 'Footnote', in the field for the footnot just enter in a limited bibliographic entry, author/title etc. Just don't forget, even with footnotes you still need a proper bibliography.

Course, no one is expected to memorize all the rules so be sure to read through the official site http://www.chicagomanualofstyle.org/tool…

I assume you're running Windows Vista, and using Microsoft Office 2007, specifically Word. I must admit the new ';ribbon'; interface has dismayed many. You need to select the ';References'; tab, and then under the Footnotes section (near the left) there's be a large button ';Insert Footnote';.
I assume you have Vista but are running Windows 2007. See the link below for step by step instructions.
If you have 2007 as it would seem, then switch to References menu tab and you will see the insert footnotes icon in the ribbon. Very simple, just like previous versions.

Is Scott McClellan's scathing ';tell all'; a fitting footnote to the Bush administrations lust for war ?

How many in the administration have come out to say what an idiot he is. at least 4 and the former head of the FBI.

scaryIs Scott McClellan's scathing ';tell all'; a fitting footnote to the Bush administrations lust for war ?
Not that I am a fan of the Bush Administration, but let me offer you a little ';buyer beware'; on this.

Scott McClellan's 15 minutes of fame are up. He will basically fade into the world of nobodys very soon. His chance to cash in on it is to take a 6 or 7 figure advancement on a book deal, in the hopes that Bush haters will lap it up as fact.

I'm not saying that McClellan will go as far as to out and out lie through the whole thing, but I think it's quite plausible that you may get a distortion of the truth in this instance. He has people basically saying, ';We'll give you a lot of money if you just give us some dirt on Bush.'; Well, if you give someone a lot of money, dirt is what you'll get, whether its 100% accurate or not.Is Scott McClellan's scathing ';tell all'; a fitting footnote to the Bush administrations lust for war ?
McClellan is a moron who (badly) lied at the podium REPEATEDLY while he was being a good soldier and lapdog for Bush, then when he gets a book deal decides that he can 'tell it as it is'...the fact that he sat idly by during scandal after scandal and towed the Bush line and spoke the same tired old talking points over and over and over and then speaks his mind MUCH LATER after the fact makes him as unAmerican as can be.

Just check out any of this dude's press briefings on youtube to see how moronic he is. He was horrible at that job, but then again so is Dana Perino, so was Ari Fleisher and Tony 'max headroom' Snow.

So McClellan tells all and exposes Bush as a fraud, a phony, close-minded and inept? That's news? Everyone on the face of the planet knows that stuff.
Footnote? No it is just one of the early tomes in what will likely be a piling on for years to come.

Public sentiment is against Bush. So Books that bash Bush will sell. Anyone who has some insight that is, well, 'bashing' will be publishing in the next few years to cash in.

Although I think current popular opinion is correct, and the brief excerpt of McClellan's book is compelling, we won't really have a the clearest picture of the true impact of the Bush White house until well after the 'bashing' period of the next few years.

But back when Scotty was press secretary and was tortuously defending the indefensible I just had to write a piece on it.

    http://lolalesabre.blogspot.com/2006/02/鈥?/a>
If Bush has a ';lust for war'; then count me and hundreds of thousands of others in as being lusty. You can thank Bush that your head is still on top of your shoulders and neck.
It is more about getting reelected than a lust for war. A sure fire way to get elected again is to keep the simple minded scared. They succeeded and are still succeeding at that. Examples above.
    I haven't read it, and I don't plan to.

Is there is a way for me to edit a large amount of footnotes at one time on Microsoft Word 2003?

I am a member of a digital library project, and we are transcribing a large document with over 300 footnotes attached. We have needed to changes these footnotes into regular text so that the document can be read by our computer program. (However, the footnote number itself stays, for instance: [1] (footnote text here...) However, we would like to renumber each footnote at once. Is this still possible, when all the footnotes have been changed to regular text? Any help would be much appreciated. Is there is a way for me to edit a large amount of footnotes at one time on Microsoft Word 2003?
Assuming that when you say ';all the footnotes have been changed to regular text'; you mean they are no longer footnotes, then there's nothing you can do but to go one by one inserting each footnote number then copying the text that you want is footnotes into the appropriate area at the bottom of each page. If they were still footnotes, and as long as the footnotes were inserted using Word's ';Insert, Reference, Footnote'; method, once you change the 1st number, the rest would change automatically. Is there is a way for me to edit a large amount of footnotes at one time on Microsoft Word 2003?
Yes it seems to be possible. I made a document with Footnotes and changed them to Normal text and was able to re-number them. Try it yourself on a mock document to be sure. To re-number them click on Insert - Footnotes and then on the Options button to choose the format you want. If any of the Footnote references (in the text) are deleted, the remaining footnotes will automatically re-number themselves.

How do you do endnotes or footnotes properly?

I am doing a research paper on Child Labor, so I have lots of facts and sources I have to list. Here are my questions-

1.What do I do when I state another fact from a source already listed?(i know about ibid, but do i just write ibid instead of another number? or do i have to list something to go along with ibid at the bottom where the sources are listed?)

2.If I use ibid for multiple sources, do I specify which of the repeated sources the fact is from? (example: I have a lot of facts from UNICEF, and a lot of facts from HRW; when I am using ibid for a UNICEF fact, do I write something extra to show that that's not a HRW fact?)How do you do endnotes or footnotes properly?
    1. ';Ibid.'; is like ';ditto.'; You use it as shorthand for what you have previously cited. If your new facts come from new pages in that same source, you have to list the new pages after the ibid. If you don't, you are saying that your new facts come from the same pages as before. ';Ibid.'; stands alone only if you don't have anything different in your reference.

2 With multiple sources, as with single sources, the ibid only reflects what immediately came before it. If you change sources, you have to list the earlier one again before you can ibid it. If you go from UNICEF to HRW, and you have cited HRW before, you still have to list the HRW source all over again before you can ibid it again.

    Edit:

You do need to number all footnotes. For example:

    1. Book A, p. 41.

    2. ibid., p. 72.

    3. Book B, pp. 394-5

    4. Book A, p. 111

    5. ibid.

That last ibid refers to both book A *and* page 111.

This depends on the format you are using actually. In APA formatting you would do it like this...

I don't know about the specific questions you ask, because I always had to use the APA (American Psychological Association) Style Manual.

However, my GUESS would be that since footnotes are much easier to do now that we have word processors, there is no longer any joy in torturing typists who had erasable paper and would have to estimate the number of lines to be reserved for footnotes.

I know about those painful estimations from first-hand experience, and have never seen another footnote since personal computers were becoming popular.

I need to change footnote in Word.?

I asked about the 'read only' problem a few minutes ago and I appreciate all the help I got. It worked! Now I need to change something in the file. Its not really a footnote, but on each page I have ';Copyright 2002'; at the bottom and I can't select it with my cursor, so I know I have it imbedded (put it on a master page somehow) but don't know where I did it. I searched thru all the ';Insert'; options and can't find it. Any suggestions? Thanks!I need to change footnote in Word.?
Go to the VIEW menu and pick HEADERS and FOOTERS. You will see the HEADER. A button will appear that will SWITCH to FOOTER, so click on that.

Good luck and Happy Computing!I need to change footnote in Word.?
    view, header and footer
It's probably a watermark. Go to Format - Background, then Printed Watermark and see if there is anything checked there.

Or, View - Header Footer and look there.

When do you use endnotes and when do you use footnotes?

i know to credit the author...and all the obvious...but when would i use a footnote over an endnote? When do you use endnotes and when do you use footnotes?
I generally don't like to use footnotes, but I think it depends on your personal likes and dislikes. Is it an essay or a story? For essays I generally use APA or MLA style, thus using end notes. For stories (novels, etc), I would do the numbers (like you would for footnotes) and then cite the sources on the last page with the corresponding numbers (rather than at the bottom of the page). When do you use endnotes and when do you use footnotes?
firstly, you should NEVER have endnotes and footnotes used together in the same document, you either use endnotes or footnotes...

generally just use what you're most comfortable with (i like footnotes so i always use footnotes), by if its an item for school and is part of your assessment, use whatever the teacher wants
this can be confusing, but it really depends on the citation style you are using.

for Chicago, you can use either endnotes or footnotes - but whichever you choose, you must be consistent. Do not use both.

for MLA, APA, etc... You use in-text citations. an end or foot note would only be used for a comment that you do not want in the body of your paper but is NOT a citation.

    for example: For further information on food culture, please see Bob Smith's ';Eating your Way through China';

But remember, all citation formats require a Bibliography. this is different from end/footnotes and contains a list of all sources you have used.

I would ask your teacher what he/she requires...

Usually 10 or even 8 point font is what is used depending upon the font size of the body of the paper., but yes, the font size usually is smaller. I think there is a Word setting where your computer can do this for you. I know there is for endnotes.
Yes, use the smallest font available (7 or 8 point should work).

Should I place a comma before adding footnoted info or should I just put the footnote mark and continue?

Not sure whether to start the sentence and insert a comma before placing the footnotes number and continuing the sentence.

i.e. according to Mark, (footnote1) it couldnot be done.

    or

according to Mark (footnote1) it couldnot be done.

Also do u put the end of sentence punctuation inside of the quotation or outside? Need help quick!!,Should I place a comma before adding footnoted info or should I just put the footnote mark and continue?
According to Mark, it ';could not be done.';1

(1 being the footnote, in superscript)

The footnote goes at the end of the sentence, after all punctuation, at least in American English usage according to all styles I know. On rare occasions, you can put it mid-sentence after a comma, but it's almost always better to put it at the end. Final punctuation goes inside the quotation marks.Should I place a comma before adding footnoted info or should I just put the footnote mark and continue?
According to Mark, it could not be done (footnote).

    to quote Mark, ';blahblahblah (add punctuation)';

    to be more specific:

    ';The world is better off without me!';

Punctuation always goes inside the quotation marks.
If the whole sentence is in quotes, then you put the period, question mark, or exclamation point inside the quotes, otherwise outside.

  • If a person is writing a book, what is the best way to cite references? APA says footnotes are too expensive?

as well as endnotes. Is is better to just not put in footnotes and just put in a bibliography at the end? It someone wants to find the information, they will have a hard time finding it. Does anyone out there know the answer to this?If a person is writing a book, what is the best way to cite references? APA says footnotes are too expensive?
    Endnotes.

In books, footnotes are generally reserved for aside comments (specifically, those comments that don't belong in the text itself, not even when separated by the proper punctuation). If a person is writing a book, what is the best way to cite references? APA says footnotes are too expensive?
    The APA Wizard

The APA Wizard is designed to help you create an APA (5th ed.) citation. It will take you through the steps for the most common types of cited works providing you with assistance on how to input specific information. As long as you enter the information correctly, the Wizard will result in a correct APA citation.

footnote citations are similar to in text citations in that you use parenthetical citation with author and page, or in the case of a website, author and main page.
