Word will automatically maintain the numbering sequence no matter what you do to the endnotes. To put in a Word endnote (Word XP (2002) and adjacent versions. Word Vista (2007) probably has a similar mechanism):

1.Position the cursor where you want the endnote reference to go.

2.Click on the Insert-%26gt;Reference-%26gt;Footnote menu item.

3. If it's not already selected, select the Endnote radio button.

4.Click Insert.

5.Type the endnote.

Hope that helps. How do u insert a FOOTNOTE in microsoft WORD w/o the thing that shows up on the bottom? 10 PTS cuz i pick b.a.
first go the top bar that says things like file and edit then you go to insert and you should see a thing that says foot note click it and it will insert it
The thing that shows up at the bottom is your footnote.

By the way, what is ten points worth? I have some for sale.
if you are talking about the grey box, its not there when you print. anything that grey is not there when you print.
I think what you are actually trying to do is add endnotes not footnotes. Endnotes are at the end of your document, not at the bottom of the page. Click to insert the cursor where you want to add the endnote. Then click on Insert (in the toolbar at the top), then reference, and finally footnote. A window will appear. Select ';endnotes'; and the formatting that you want and click instert. You'll then be able to enter your notes... If you want the endnotes to be on a seperate page (at the end of the document), then insert a page break right before the endnotes. Then as you add more text, etc. to your document, the endnotes will always be at the very end, and on a seperate page. Also, as you add more notes, or move things around in the document, the endnotes will automatically update the numbering accordingly, so you don't have to do it manually. You can also click right before your endnotes (on your last page, and enter (insert a couple lines) so that you can put a title on the page like ';NOTES'; or something similar...
