If I dont use a source word for word, do I have to footnote, or just cite as a source in bibliography?

Just cite it in your bibliography. If I dont use a source word for word, do I have to footnote, or just cite as a source in bibliography?
You should still give credit to the source of the thought or idea in a footnote. If the thought or idea (for example, you drawing a conclusion based on input from multiple sources) is yours exclusively or an independent comment on those sources, then you can cite the source in the bibliography.

As an example, if you quoted someone in your writing, that is definitely a footnote. If the source said something like ';dachshunds were originally bred in France; however, the breed later became a favorite of German breeders and thus is identified as a German breed today,'; that would require a footnote.

If you wrote, ';many people do not know that the dachshund breed originated in France'; as a paraphrase of this quote, you should still footnote the source.

If you wrote ';some evidence suggests the dachshund breed was developed in France but there is wide disagreement with this point of view by some in the field'; that would not require a footnote.

Hope this helps.
