If I refer to the same page twice, can I use the same footnote number?

eg.

You can only use the same number once.

If the next reference is to the same page, use the next number and instead of writing out the whole footnote, write Ibid. which is the abbreviation for the Latin word which translates: in the same place.

In your example of footnote style if you have another reference to the same book or article later on, use the appropriate consecutive number and instead of writing out the whole footnote, write Dickens, Op. cit. p. 68. Op. cit. is the abbreviation for the Latin words which mean in the work cited.

For more information, take a look at style manual used in the subject of each of your courses. Your instructor or GSI can tell you which one to use. You can also learn a lot about citation form by looking at bibliographies in standard books in a given field.
