For an english paper I have to use a footnote..the paper instructs...';You will, however, be required to use at least one footnote where you define an unusual or unique term or explain something further';

HELPHow do I create a footnote?
In word, where you want to add the number for the footnote, click on insert / reference / footnote. It will enter a number and hyperlink to the end of the document where you fill in the footnote info. If that doesn't make sense, type footnote in microsoft help.

The guy above me isn't doing it correctly. Footnotes and footers are different. To have a real footnote, you need the number, and if you do it correctly in word, it looks the way it's supposed to. It wont look right if you do it his way. Footers are for page numbers.How do I create a footnote?
Are you looking for the mechanics of how you create a footnote in a Word document? Put the cursor at the point where you want the footnote. Click on insert (menu across the top) and choose reference and then footnote. You'll need to pick how you want them numbered. Choose something simple, like 1, rather than roman numerals. When you're done adding the information, click on the body of your page and keep writing. Good luck on the paper!
Assuming you are using Microsoft Word:

Click: view, header and footer.

Click the button ';switch between header and footer'; on the H+F toolbar.

Type in your footnote.

Click ';close';

Note: This footer will appear on every page. To have a different first page, click Page setup, Layout tab, and check ';different first page';.

What you type in the other pages will be the same on every page.
