You would have to had a footnote for each qoute you take out of a source. You cannot write a footnote for the whole paper. If you used only one source, you will have to repeat the footnote everytime you insert someone else's words into your paper. How do we put a ';footnote'; when writing a project? You will use a ';superscript'; number for the footnote reference. So, if you are using Microsoft Word, you need only click INSERT (on the toolbar), reference, then footnote, it will automatically place the number and allow you to type at the bottom of each page. Try it.
The style you are probably supposed to use for your project is MLA. You should have a separate refence page. The citations should look like...

';Proprerly using citations woll help you to avoid plagerism'; (Edward 65).

or

Edward states that properly using citations will help...plagerism'; (65).

Then on a separate peice of paper you list your source(s) in alphabetical order. The last page should say References centered on the top. You should yahoo MLA format citations and there are different sites that will show you how to properly reference your source.

It should look like

Author's last name, Author's first name. Title (underlined). State:publisher, year.
Go to insert header/footer. Since you want a footer, click footer.
