How would I site an Internet source in a footnote for an essay?

I'm writing an essay for a scholarship that requires that I use footnotes, and how would I site a source from the internet, like www.whitehouse.gov for example? Granted, I'm using a specific URL as my source, not just the home page of a website like that. So, would I just type the URL of the page as the footnote? Or would I include other information like the author, title of the page, or anything else? Any help would be appreciated, thanks! How would I site an Internet source in a footnote for an essay?
If your using Microsoft Word, then go to ';print layout'; mode

example

http://addbalance.com/usersguide/images/鈥?/a>

or

http://asp2.wlv.ac.uk/its/website/selfhe鈥?/a>

click ';view';, a ';drop down menu'; will appear. Click ';header and footer';. It should be easy enough to figure out from here...
