Is it possible in Microsoft Word to place an endnote within a footnote?

I'm editing a manuscript that has two separate sets of notes to the text: one set of footnotes present in the original text, and a set of endnotes that comprise the critical apparatus. I need to place an endnote within one of these footnotes, and Word won't let me do it. Is there a way around this at all?
